Each week, high performing student-athletes are nominated by their coaches to be named the Blue Bison Athlete of the Week.

CJ Haver: CJ led the bison to two wins this week, averaging 13 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. In the two victories, CJ guarded the opposing top scorers, and held them to 4 and 3 points, well below what they average per game.

Hanna Fraley

Hanna Fraley, Senior and Co-Captain of the gymnastics team scored a career high on floor with at 9.0, and All Around with a 32.6.

Brady Schilling

At the Fort Edward Holiday Tournament Brady won 1st place for highest game (248), 3 game series for either session (676), and 3rd highest 6 game series (1241).

Michael Santore

V Wrestling

Over the break, Michael defeated a sectional champion from section 7 in the finals of the Queensbury Holiday Tournament. He is currently 19-1 with 13 pins and ranked 11th in the state.

Kaelah Carter

V Basketball

In a 52-42 win over Ballston Spa on Tuesday, Kaelah Carter continued to prove her versatility for Shaker girls basketball. Her astounding 26 points last night made her the high scorer in the last three games; leader in steals, deflections and blocks; and second in rebounds. Paired with her stats, Kaelah is a leader on the court because she looks for her teammates, shows excellent communication throughout the game, and provides a staunch defense.

Kaleigh Higgins, Ciara Bullington, Leonni Griffin

V Cross Country

Kaleigh Higgins, Ciara Bullington, and Leonni Griffin have consistently been the top three finishers for the Girls Varsity Cross Country team this season. They have led the team in becoming one of the best in the area. Good luck to them and the rest of the Varsity team at the Section 2 Championship meet!

Sandra Sheedy

Congratulations to senior Sandra Sheedy for qualifying for the state meet at Ballston Spa this past weekend; she is the first female diver from Shaker to qualify for states in over a decade. Additionally, Sandra stepped in at senior night to help out on the swimming end, competing in the 50 butterfly as part of the medley relay.

According to the Times Union article, "Shaker senior speedster Mayah Wheeler produced her own celebration as she notched three goals [a hat trick] to lead the visiting Blue Bison to a 3-1 victory [over Colonie]."

Sofia Marra

Sofia served an amazing game against Averill Park with 10 serving aces,11 kills, and 11 digs. She was a steady, consistent player who helped take the win over Averill Park.

Kieran Cummins

V Golf

Kieran was a major contributor in the Bison's 3rd place finish in the Suburban Council Golf Tournament. He shot a one over par 73, which was good enough for a 2nd place finish out of 99 other players.

Ani Gregori Asadourian

V Tennis

This junior won the deciding match against Niskayuna, giving Shaker a 5-4 win. Ani lost the first set 3-6 before rallying to take the second set in a tiebrake 9-7, and the third set 6-1. Ani trailed in the tiebrake 3-6 and held off 3 match points - losing any one of them would have given Niskayuna the overall match win. She then defeated her Niskayuna opponent decisively in the third set 6-1 to seal the Shaker win.

Alyssa has been among the top finishers in all of her Freshmen races so far this season. At the Queensbury Invitational she was the first Shaker finisher and 3rd overall out of 114 runners.

Annika has repeatedly been recognized by her coach as a leader and consistent top finisher among the JV team.

Olivia Lovly hasn't allowed a goal against Shaker in the past 4 games. Against Guilderland, this freshman had an outstanding game with 12 saves; 3 days later she had 6 saves against Burnt Hills.

Jake Iacobaccio

V Football

Sophomore quarterback Jake Iacobaccio made a big splash in his debut as a Bison. In front of a TV audience and a huge crowd, Jake led the team to a 28-7 win over perennial power Burnt Hills. Jake ran for 2 touchdowns and also threw for a score. Jake had 95 yards rushing on 13 carries and threw for 136 yards.

Karleigh Mirabile

Karleigh had an incredible offensive game vs. Bethlehem. Her work off the ball and cutting made a huge difference in opening up lanes to get the ball to space. She scored what would be the winning goal off a penalty stroke.

Senior captain on the Boys Varsity Soccer team, Sam helped to anchor the Blue Bison in back to back shut-out victories to open the season. Sam is the starting centerback and a true leader on and off the field.

Michaela scored 11 goals and had 4 assists in 2 games. She was a huge part of our two wins this past week. She’s tied for scoring the most goals on JV and leads in assists.

Leonni Griffin has had a phenomenal season so far this year. Not only has she placed top at our regular season meets, she's also placed top 4 at the invitationals.

  • First Place at Shen Showcase with a top 25 state time of 2:19.33 in the 800M

  • First Place at Shen Showcase with a 4:43.86 in the 1500 Meter

  • First place finish in multiple dual meets; Saratoga, Guilderland, Burnt Hills, and Niskayuna for the 800M.

Talyn Chernosky – Grade 7

Talyn had a big week! In our first win over Guilderland she pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts and only giving up 2 runs. She went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI in the 10-2 win. She continued to lead the team offensively hitting 2 for 4 with a 3 run homerun the next day helping to defeat Guilderland again 18-8. Talyn is one of our leading batters consistently getting the hits we need and getting on base, as well as our top pitcher with 39 strikeouts for the season so far. Talyn is a key part of both the offense and defense, helping the modified softball team to a 6-2 record with 5 games remaining!

Sai leads by example every game. He brings a quiet composure to the court, executing the basics at a high level. Sai has added a thunderous serve to his repertoire which other teams simply can't handle. Sai is humble and always open to suggestions.

Alex Robin – Alex is a consistent presence on the court. He leads the team in blocking and is a leader in our front row. Since joining the team last season he has steadily improved his game in every aspect, becoming a threat offensively. Alex is a great teammate and leader.

Peyton Strand shows consistent leadership on and off the court; she leads the team in kills with an average of 11 per game and 90% service percentage per game.

Layla Shipley shows consistent hard work on the court; she averages 90% service accuracy per game and averages 10-12 defensive digs per game.

Both players have been instrumental in our many wins throughout the season.

In addition to being an A student, senior safety John Graney had an exceptional first game to help the Bison to a 20-0 opening win vs Shen. John accounted for 4 total takeaways for the Bison D that limited Shen to 103 yards of total offense. John had 2 interceptions and recovered 2 fumbles, one of which resulted in a touchdown.

In a 3-0 victory over Bethlehem, Junior Sophia Marra had 13 service points, 4 kills and 4 digs. She is being recognized as Shaker's Athlete of the Week because of her service points and scrappy plays. Way to go, Sophia!

KJ scored 11 points, 3 assists and 2 steals against Colonie. Against Bethlehem, she scored 17 points and had 3 steals.

Logan had a season high 705 series and a high game of 267. This led the team to a win over CBA and move the teams record to 6-2. That’s the highest series and highest game by anyone this year.

EMERGENCY GOALIES: Each helped secure a winning playoff game. On Tuesday MCCulloch had 6 saves in a 6-1 win over Saratoga, and on Thursday Foglia had 8 saves in a 1-0 win over Niskayuna; both Laurens stepped up and helped the team advance to Suburban Council Finals.

Leonni Griffin (9th grade) and Kaleigh Higgins (10th grade) have been the first and second place finishers on the Varsity Cross Country team for every race this season. They finished first and second overall against a strong Shenendehowa team to help secure the biggest win of the season. Good luck in the final race this Sunday!

JV Soccer

November 9-13, 2020

Kyle had a phenomenal week for the JV Soccer team. On Tuesday, Kyle recorded 6 saves in goal against Saratoga - in a battle between two undefeated teams. Kyle maintained a shutout, with 2 crucial saves in the final 5 minutes - including a 1v1 break-away save. He was named Man-of-the-Match by both coaches, in a game that finished 0-0 - keeping both teams undefeated. On Saturday against Troy, Kyle came off the bench and scored his first 2 goals of the season. He helped lead Shaker to a 10-0 victory, no goals allowed on the week, and a continued undefeated season with one game remaining.

Tess Cody made some great defensive stops and was key in generating plays on offense. Lily Luper had another incredible defensive game, making tackles in the defensive end and using her stick skills to get the ball out of the defensive zone. Final score: Shaker 2 - Niskayuna 0

Lily Phelps & Regan Doherty

October 26-31, 2020

While playing Bethlehem, with the match tied 4-4 after 2 hours of play, Lily and Regan lost the first set 6-4 and were trailing in the second set 2-0 when they rallied to take the second set 6-4. They then played a match play tie brake (first team to 10 by a margin of 2) and fell behind 8-5. The match seemed out of reach at that moment.

They then rallied again winning 5 consecutive points to take their match and give Shaker the overall team match 5-4.

Laura Romania - Varsity Swimming

October 19-23, 2020

Laura is the first one in the water, always makes her intervals, and has really committed herself this season. On Thursday her hard work and dedication paid off when she won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.65 against Shenendehowa.

Ethan Valente #21 - JV Boys Soccer

October 19-23, 2020

Ethan tallied two goals and an assist this week, and played an integral part of the Shaker Boys JV Soccer team's offense. Ethan scored the second goal for Shaker on Tuesday vs. Averill Park, and then followed it up with a beautiful assist to help round off the scoring. Then, against Niskayuna on Saturday, Ethan found the back of the net in the second half to put Shaker up 2-0, which would end up being the final score. Ethan led the week with a team high 3 points. On the season, Ethan is tied for the team high for both goals and assists - and leads the team in total points.

Sarah Jacob & Julia Barker - Varsity XC

October 12-16, 2020

Sarah Jacob and Julia Barker are the only seniors on the strong and relatively young girls cross country team. They have been recognized as captains and leaders, and they are great role models for their teammates.

Bria Labella - Varsity Girls Soccer

October 5-9, 2020

Goalie Bria Lebella helped her team secure a shutout win over Albany, then another shutout tie against Shen. In the Shen game Bria recorded 12 saves (4 of which were 1 on 1).

Bejamin Inglee - Varsity Boys Soccer

October 5-9, 2020

Benjamin Inglee led the charge for the Varsity Boys Soccer team’s huge 5-1 season opening win over Albany. Ben not only scored the first 2 goals of the season, but he did so in only 10 minutes. In addition to his 2 goals, Benjamin added another assist and was a playmaking force throughout the game. In case that was not enough, that was Benjamin’s first game in a new position! His team first attitude has been a great asset to the team.

Joe Teson - Varsity Boys Golf

Joe Teson scored a 38, helping secure the first win of the season over Colonie.

Emily Bette - Varsity Girls Golf

September 21-26, 2020

Emily worked hard on her golf game off season and returned this year an even more disciplined player with clear goals to shoot low numbers. Emily keeps the team laughing, but when she steps on the tee box, she’s all business. She led us in our season opener with a low score of 42, and we expect Emily to be a leader this season.
